I’d say if the “something” is evil. Use the Diminished 7th Chord. In the key of C Major, the Diminished 7th would be the notes: B-D-F-G#. Also, add a low bass octave hit of B! Also, when your protagonists wins (hopefully) use the bVI-bVII-I chord progression! In C Major, that would be Ab Major-Bb Major-C Major!
