Explanation: The ideas behind most of Rome's weapon and armor came from the type of enemy they encountered and the models run by such enemies. Initially, the roman soldiers  used weapons according to the Greek and Etruscan  models, but as they went on battles with their enemies, they had to reconstruct their weapons based on the weapons used by such enemies. For example, when they encountered the Celts, they developed new models of weapon.  Another time was when they encountered the Carthaginians, they developed new weapons based on the Carthaginian and these weapons served as a basis and standard for the production of weapons that gave the Roman soldiers a maJor advantage over their enemies. The three main weapons that served as a standard and  utilized by Roman officers were the pilum, the gladius, and the pugio, with the  armor playing  an important part in acting as a protective shield.
