1. What is the difference in the fossil fuels extracted from conventional drilling and the fossil fuels extracted using fracking?

2. Why do you think companies are using fracking instead of just normal conventional drilling?

3. List the three main components in slickwater.

4. If slickwater is used for fracking, but the proppant is mistakenly left out of the slickwater, how would this effect the fracking process?

5. Flowback wastewater is disposed of in a process called deep-well injection, which pumps large quantities of wastewater down into porous sandstone and limestone rock formations underground. What potential problems could result from this?

6. What two things makes the flowback wastewater too contaminated to return to the natural environment?

7. Which one of the risks involved in fracking concerns you the most and why?

8. What can the United States do to decrease fracking, yet meet its energy needs in the future?

9. What is your opinion about fracking? Do you think it is something that should continue?

10. What are some alternative energy sources to replace fossil fuels?

Respuesta :

Answer:

1. As such there is not much difference in the fossil fuel regardless of the technique used for extraction. the fracking extraction only improve the ability of rock to transmit fluid in Shale and can be easily extracted.

2. There are several benefits of fracking such as greater energy security,  lower energy prices, fewer carbon emissions and reduced air pollution.

3.  Three main components in slickwater are friction reducers, which lowers friction pressure to moderate pumping pressures; disinfectants that restricts the growth of microbes that can break down frack fluids; and Corrosion inhibitors that protect the casing and equipment from corroding in fracking.

4. The proppants are use to remian the cracks open after the pressure treatment is completed. If proppants are not used with slickwater the fracture will get close and the number of hydrocarbons release will be less.

5.  The wastewater deposited down into porous sandstone and limestone rocks formation flows up to the surface of water when water pumped down for fracking and it is harmful for drinking water resources as it contains dissolved minerals and chemicals. It can also cause earthquakes associated with oil and gas development.

6. The flowback of wastewater contaminate the drinking water aquifers and surface water which contain harmful chemicals.

7. Water contamination is one of the risks involved in fracking as it contains toxic chemicals which not only affect the drinking water for human but also affects the living organism in water.

8. United states can decrease fracking by:

  • Using water-less drilling systems: it will prevent water contamination and meet teh energy needs as well.
  • Replace fresh water with recycled water or brine: it is eco-freindly option which will reduce fresh water use and reuse the water.

9. The fracking process should not be continue because it has harmful effect on environment such as air pollution (due to carbon emission) and water pollution (toxic chemicals).

10. Alternative energy sources to replace fossil fuels are hydrogen, geothermal, biofuels, solar or nuclear energy, which are ecofriendly sources of energy.

1. The difference between in the fossil fuels extracted from drilling and the fossil fuels extracted using fracking is that fossil fuels extracted from drilling uses high pressure water to split rock whearas typical fossil fuels fracking extraction does not use this high pressure water to split rock

2. Companies are using fracking instead of just normal conventional drilling because fracking allows drilling firms to access difficult-to-reach resources of oil and gas.

3. Three main components of slick water are combination of:

  1. Water
  2. Chemicals and
  3. Sand

that is injected into a crude oil or natural gas well to reduce friction pressure and create a fracture.

4. This would effect the fracking process and can contaminate water supplies if it is not done properly, because the fracking fluid injected into rock to enable gas to be released often contains chemicals.

5. The potential problems that could result from deep-well injections thlare:

  • Pollution of surface water
  • Impair wild landscapes

6. Two things which makes the flowback wastewater too contaminated to return to natural environment are:

  1. Poison groundwater
  2. Threaten wildlife

7. One of the risks of fracking that concerns me bitterly is the pollution that fracking sites releases which causes health related problems such as asthma, childhood leukemia, cardiac disorders and others.

8. The United States can decrease fracking and meet its energy need in the future by regular cleanings in the fracking sites. Viz:

  • Using water-less fracking systems
  • Replace fresh water with recycled water or brine
  • Replace diesel powered equipment
  • Introduce wastewater purification
  • Reduce methane leaks

9. In my humble opinion, fracking is not a good idea and it should not continue as its sites releases a toxic air pollution that includes chemicals that can cause severe headaches, asthma symptoms, childhood leukemia, cardiac problems, and birth defects. All these can render the health of nations highly unhealthy and I suggest other sources of energy other than fossil fuels. Good health is wealth.

10 Some alternative energy sources to replace fossil fuels are: Solar power, ethanol, nuclear power and wind power.

Fracking

It is a drilling technology used for extracting oil, natural gas, geothermal energy, or water from deep underground.
