Dark matter, after the big ban helps bound the ejecta from the stars together with other particles that collapse preventing it from moving freely. This could have been the end of this generation of stars because the material wouldn't have been recycles for the use of the next generation of stars.

It also helps the ultraviolet radiation and stellar wind to remain bound to clusters of start formed if not they could have been moving freely causing a great harm to the environment.
