7 + 3x - 12x = 3x + 1 Combine like terms (3x and -12x)
7 - 9x = 3x + 1 Subtract 3x from both sides
7 - 12x = 1 Subtract 7 from both sides
-12x = -6 Divide both sides by -12
x = [tex] \frac{1}{2} [/tex]

haay, ok, so first collect the like terms. Meaning you have to move everything to one side with the same term. This will then eventually change the number to be a postive or negative.. E.g. 7-1 = 3x + 12x -3x. Then solve for x. Which will be 6= 12x.. I think.. hahaha. But yeah. So then to find x, you have to divide the number over the number with the x. E.g. 6/12. And then, x will equal whatever the number you simply from 6÷12.. :))
