Let the two numbers be x and y, then
x + y = 143 . . . . . (1)
x - y = 143 - 136 = 7 . . . . (2)

(1) - (2) => 2y = 136 => y = 68
From (1), x + 68 = 143 => x = 143 - 68 = 75
