Following the Free-body Diagram, these are the Four types of Resistance Force with descriptions:

1. Applied Force - if a person is pushing the table across the hall, then an applied force is acting on the table.

2. Frictional Force - if a book slides across the surface of the table, then the table exerts a frictional force in the opposite direction of its motion.

3. Normal Force - if a stone is resisting upon the floor, then the floor is exerting an upward force upon the stone in order to support the weight of the stone.

4. Gravitational Force- all things on Earth experience gravity or the downward  force towards the center of the Earth. It makes all object that are thrown upward will make the objects to fall down.

The four main types of resistance forces are:

  1. Frictional force.
  2. Gravitational force.
  3. Applied force.
  4. Air resistance.

What is a resistance force?

Resistance forces are those forces that are applied or exerted in the opposite direction of the motion of the body. They create friction and decrease the speed or motion of the body.

The frictional force opposes the motion of the object. Rough objects cause more friction than smooth objects. Gravitational force is the one exerted by the earth, and they keep all objects downwards. The applied force is the applied by a person on an object. Air resistance is caused by air, which alters the motion of a flying object.

Thus, the main types of resistance forces are:

  1. Frictional force.
  2. Gravitational force.
  3. Applied force.
  4. Air resistance.
