How did Mississippian villages protect themselves

explanation : some of the mississippian villages had defensive structures but not all of the villages had these defensive structures to protect themselves with these had usually came in the forms of poll walls. also known as a palisade. sometimes there was even a ditch outside the wall but not all the time these things helped keep unwelcome things out such as other people and animals from going inside the village . some towns had even featured mounds , a mound is a natural elevation of the earth used for defensive work or a dam.

example of a mound- the slightly elevated ground that a baseball pitcher delivers a ball.

another example of a mound is - a small hill usually made up of rocks and or dirt that you can climb on

but in this case the mound that i'm talking about is what the indians used which was a elevated part of the earth used to defend their villages from people and animals entering.

oh and a moat is a ditch filled with water that surrounds a building or a town

it is also something that can be used as a form of defense but these moats can also be and or act like a sewer.
