Alright , so in simple terms the law of superposition by Steno basically says that in a set of layers of sedimentary rocks , the rocks at the bottom of the layers are older than the ones at the top. Now , this is the case when no weather conditions have eroded the layers. Hoever most of the time this is not the case , they get eroded with time and so it may get eroded to such an extent that people may not know which layer was the top and which one was the bottom. Hence , any layer could either be top or bottom , thus it has more than one position. Hence it is called superposition.
