The two environ mental challenges in Africa is desertification and disease. The challenge that needs more attention is disease. These diseases include malnutrition, malaria, and HIV/AIDS. 1 out of 3 orphan children were born with HIV/AiDS. Not only that but when families contract this disease, they have to stop working for others, and take care of the family.

Two major environmental challenges facing Africa that need immediate attention are deforestation and desertification.

The African forests are disappearing rapidly due to tourism, farming, logging and hunting. A growth in population is further worsening the problem. More mouths to feed results in more trees being cut.
Desertification has been caused by droughts, leaching and climate change. Droughts lead to plagues that destroy farmlands in totality. This in turn has lead to famine-like conditions.
