Christopher Columbus' goal was to find a western sea route to Asia. Instead, he found the islands in the Caribbean Sea. On his four journeys, he discovered the West Indies and the coasts of Central and South America. He never found the route to Asia.

Columbus did not accomplish his goal, but he did discover some important places.​
