The exact human toll remains a mystery, but research on the Brooks's ship blueprints carried in total 5,163 African slaves, and it was estimated that about 2,500,000 had died of the harsh conditions during the voyage. In the span of 25 years, the Brooks made 10 Atlantic crossings for the slave trade.
