In the United States, a large portion of the population is deeply religious, and this has a colonial origin, since an important percentage of the people who immigrated to the U.S. in the colonial period were part of religious miniorities like the quakers, the pilgrims, or the presbyterians.

In the United States, African Americans are still poorer in comparison with White Americans, and part of the reason is the legacy of slavery.

Since African Americans could not own property in colonial times (they were themselves considered to be property), they have had less time to accumulate wealth than their European-descent counterparts.

The elements that remind me of American life today would be a demand for a voice and people immigrating for more freedom. People in the United States demand for a voice by electing presidents, government, and mayors. People have the right to vote as long as they’re legal in the States. This reminds me of the past because people got to choose who would be their voice. As for immigration people from different countries come to America for a better life. This reminds me of the past because people from the British colonies traveled to what is now known as the U.S for more freedom. Such as having more freedom with their choice of religion.

I chose these because they are the most common things that happen now in the States. People vote every 4 years and they get to choose who they want as their voice. There are different ‘sides’ to choose that all have different viewpoints on different political subjects. This is so important so the person that is elected can help ‘speak’ for the people. As for immigration people immigrate here often. The United States is seen as the land of opportunities. Personally I am the second generation of a family of immigrants. My grandma moved here for a better life for her kids and she did receive a better life. People that immigrated to this country in the past also received a better life. They had freedom. Although there was a problem, only white men got the most freedom.

In conclusion these are some of the relatable things that happened in the past and now. Although some of those things have evolved into something much better now.
