The Black Lives Matter movement began eight years ago with the death of Trayvon Martin. In these years thousands of Black Americans have died during engagements with police. Most recently, the death of George Floyd has brought people of every kind to protest in the streets of America, in hopes of bringing the challenging realities of Black Americans to the forefront of America's consciousness. They have succeeded.

In a well developed paragraph, please answer the following questions on the Black Live Matter movement.

Do you feel that the movement has the ability to create the change it seeks? If so why or why not. Please offer two reasons.
Do you feel that the movement is correct in its belief that if Blacks in America are going to thrive in our society, then it will have to dramatically transform many of its social, economic and political institutions and structures? Please offer two reasons to support your perspective.
The 500 year history of Black Americans is not an easy thing to talk about, as it demands us to look at our past and try to understand why those in power made choices that were destructive and oppressive to Blacks and other groups, like Native Americans, Latino's, Asian's, etc. Do you feel that these past choices are affecting our society today? If so how and why and if not, why not?
Again, similar to last week's question, you will be graded on the depth and sincerity of your answer and answering all three questions. I understand that there are numerous perspectives that exist around these issues. This is a discussion we are having, and in a discussion there is no right or wrong, just differing views. Being respectful of diverse views is vital to our developing healthy relationships with family, friends, co-workers, etc. My hope here is that this opportunity to discuss these ideas, which are not going away, will offer you the opportunity to think about what you believe and why you believe it.
