Vikings built a trade network that covered all of modern Europe, Russia, the Middle East, northern India, and China. Europe was transformed from a prestige goods exchange system into a mercantile market economy. Also, weapons indicated the social status of a Viking, and warfare and violence were heavily influenced by pagan beliefs.
