However, in "The Yellow Wallpaper", the whole story follows this woman with her mental illness. Not once in the story do characters, such as her husband, take strong heed of her condition. This was done to show how women in the 1800's were usually not taken seriously, no matter their problems. In the previous stories, however, the tones they take aren't anywhere near as deep or as influential as within "The Yellow Wallpaper." This is how the stories tone stands out.
