Only animals being modified genetically is not true of GMOs. Genetically

modified organisms(GMOs) usually undergo some changes to their DNA in

order to infuse beneficial trait such as size and taste, resistance to diseases

etc.

The infused trait through DNA alteration helps to increase the quality and

yield of crops thereby making them readily available for the population.

Plants and animals undergo this process and isn't restricted to animals
