It has been proven by many investigations that governments around the world have put in place policies of mass surveillance of the population, using the most advanced technologies to achieve that goal.

In order to solve this problem, the populace first needs to know about this and be informed. Second, they need to demand political action from the authorities, either stopping mass surveillance altogether, or only doing it when it is really necessary, and with accountability from civilian groups.

One area where people's rights and freedoms may be at risk from government intrusion is the press. It is already possible to see that some democratic countries in Latin America are infringing press freedom.

Journalism is an area that suffers from this intrusion, many professionals are coerced and attacked directly by political leaders when reporting facts about corruption, embezzlement of public funds and other fraudulent actions.

This is an issue that must be tackled, since free information without political interference is a right of every citizen.
