She is testing for the presence of Starch.
The iodine test is a chemical reaction which checks for the presence of starch on food substances with the use of iodine solution (0.1 M potassium triiodide solution) as the reagent.
The procedure follows as
- Add few grams of the crushed solid food sample or use a spatula to hold a piece of food sample (bread)
- Add about 3-5 drops of iodine solution to the sample
- Observe any color changes.
1. If no change occurs that means the Iodine still remains brown then no starch is present
2. If a blue black coloration is formed, then presence of starch is confirmed.
