At first Simon responds saying that he doesn't know whether the beast truly exist or is just a myth. But moments just a moment later he says 'but...', then the rest of the children started talking and everyone kept chattering until Ralph shouted "hear him out!'" Now that everyone was silenced Simon got a chance to continue speaker, he finished off what he said by saying "What i mean is.... maybe it's only us."
