Solomon is the second son of David, the king of Israel. He is described as the third and final king of the United Monarchy before the kingdom divided into two.
According to the Bible, Solomon sacrificed to God, and God appeared to him in a dream asking what he wanted from God. Solomon asked for wisdom to ruled his people. God personally answered Solomon's prayer.
The best-known story of Solomon wisdom is the Judgment of Solomon; two women both claiming as to be the mother of a child. Both had recently given birth, but one child had died. Solomon announced that the child should be cut in two and shared between the women. One woman promptly offered it to the other woman to save the child, whereas the other agreed with the proposal. Solomon declared the woman who showed compassion to be the true mother and he returned the child to her.
This is how verse from the Bible describes Solomon: “So King Solomon surpassed all the kings of the earth in riches and wisdom. And all the earth sought the presence of Solomon to hear his wisdom, which God had put in his heart.” (1 Kings 10:23)
