Answer:
The Puritan community believed in God's covenant with humans, where humans are to follow the scriptures guidance obediently undergoing suffering in exchange for deliverance afterwards rewarding their compliance;
so Mary Rowlandson's experience of captivity and redemption after being held by Native Americans and later ransomed, fits the narrative as a suitable analogy for the Puritan society.
Explanation:
Answer:
The captivity narrative of Mary Rowlandson details the events during her time while she was being held captive by the Native Americans during the War of King Phillips in the year 1676. Although this narrative was written after she had gotten free, it tells from the very beginning of her capture to the end, where she is finally freed. She spent around 11 weeks in captivity, during which time she experienced 20 "removes", wherein she viewed her capture as a test or a trial sent by God, and by her keeping her faith in God and staying resilient, she would then be freed without any harm coming to her and her relationship strengthened with God; if she would complete this 'trial' successfully, she would then be considered a true Christian woman. Because of her strong beliefs, however, she resented the Native Americans and very clearly showed bias and hatred against them.
Unfortunately for her, Rowlandson was not able to publish her writing telling of her weeks spent in capture by the Native Americans. This was because prior to her capture, she was viewed as a highly respectable woman in the Puritan society, and therefore she would be expected to act as such. Due to this fact, she could not make her views and work of writing publicly available because it would not be customary for Puritan women of that time period; it would be in contrast to the traditional beliefs that were held amongst the Puritan peoples. By publishing her work, she would be risking losing the respect and recognition of her title, being held back by the expectations and views that Christianity is only a "good" religion.
