How many mg of Ibuprofen can you take at one time? I have a toothache...my root canal is sch for later today but i have to be at work in the meantime, I took one 600mg tablet this am and it still hurts real bad, like when I talk and when I drink. how many can i take in one dose?; I went and had my root canal yesterday, thank you all for your advise, everything went well and i have new pain medication and an antibiotic. *thumbs up*

600mg is good enough. If you put too much ibuprofen into your body, then your body can get used to that amount of ibuprofen. 

But the next time you are going to need the ibuprofen, you will need more than last time in order for the relief to work. 

At one point a dangerous amount of medications is going to be needed in order to help the pain. 

So... Lets keep it at 600 mg :)

ibuprofen can help but it is highly recommended that you use specific kinds of meds for a toothache
