Party whips are party members who are in charge of getting party members to vote what the party wants them to vote for. Basically, the people might not vote for something in the congress or similar and then the party whips persuade them to support it. They also deal with making congressmen not miss out on sessions and similar things. They influence because they get people to vote.
The main job of a Whip is to keep track of number of votes which came in support of a legislation and also keep check on number of votes that came in objection of that legislature.

The Whip is also known as ‘Assistant Party Leader’. Along with the leader of the party, The Whip is also the one who is responsible for ‘Whipping Up’ support for a particular position. It is not mandatory that all votes have to be whipped. If there is a possibility and the party leader is aware of the fact that the bill is going to be passed easily then in that case they will not go to trouble of counting every last vote. But if there is a creation of doubt in the mind of leader that vote is going to be close then Whipping is necessary in order to get more accurate head count. Whipping has three stages. The most basic stage out of these three stages is Basic Head Count. If the Whip moves to the Second stage, There are nine deputy Whips in the house and 11 are there in the Senate. They reach out to fence sitters to address their concerns and it gets fixed. The third stage of Whip only takes place when Whip team members approach their designated members. Whip also acts as a bridge between members of party and its leadership. They help moulding of Legislation in such a way that the members will support it.
