Hector is competing in a 42 mile bicycle race. He has already completed 18 miles of the race and is traveling at a constant speed of 12 miles per hour when Wanda starts the race. Wanda is traveling at a constant speed of 16 miles per hour.will wanda catch up to hector before the race is complete

Found distance travel

Total distance = 42 miles  

Where Wanda velocity = 16 miles /hour

Wanda distance is . (16 x T). T is time

Hector distance is 18+(12 xT)

Now find if 16.T =18+12.T

16.T - 12.T =18

T= 18/ (16-12) =18/4 =9/2 hours

Now Hector spends 42 miles/ 12 miles/hour =21/6 hours=3+ 1/2 hours to complete the race

Wanda spends 9/2 hours  to catch Hector

9/2= 4+ 1/2 hours

So then Wanda  CANNOT  catch Hector, because when she catched Hector, he  have already finished the race .!
