The theme of the passage is you may need someone to talk to at any time. Because Peter misses his friends, Anne is trying to talk to him. His words are taken in the wrong manner. They were both talking about blowing off steam. Peter said “ anytime you want to let off steam, you can come in my room.” Having someone you can share your feelings with is an important thing to have when you are upset.
