I think you should compare it to the renaissance, such a rebirth of the world and how we are changing as a society drastically in times of need. A lot of renaissance paintings were quite dramatic too. A painting that isnt renaissance but it is quite relevant even today is Picasso's guernica which explains the story of a bombing of a spanish town during the very end of the spanish civil war and the very beginning of the second world war.
