A long time ago, in the mid 19th century, some kids were wandering around in the dark forest. These kids happened to be siblings. Elle was the oldest at sixteen, and she was given the task of looking after her two younger siblings. Connor was an adventurous boy who just turned fourteen. The youngest, Paisley, was a curious, but cautious twelve year old girl. Their parents had died from Cholera only a few days before, and the children were being sent to live with their nearest relatives. Before they began their long journey, the resident elder of their home town gave them a piece of advice, “There are creatures in the forest who can and cannot be trusted. Do not let them deceive you.”
As the three set out on their journey, they ponder on the elder’s words. “What did he mean by creatures?” Paisley asked. “I’m not sure,” Elle replied. “But I do know we need to be careful.” Connor was busy thinking about his parents, and their new home. He didn’t realize his sisters were already walking up the trail. As he looks up from his thoughts, he sees a shadow dance across the trees. “Ahhhh!!” He yells. “Connor! Are you okay?!?” Elle’s frantic hands rush to search her brother for any scratches, bumps, or bruises. “Yeah, yeah I’m fine sister,” Connor replies, a bit shaken. “I just thought I saw something up there.” He points to the treetops. The tall, wicked looking trees, stirr as a response. Paisley goes to touch the tree, and finds the leaves are cold, brittle, and almost weapon-like. “Woah, these trees are much different than the ones surrounding our village!” She says. “Back away,” comes a voice from deep within the tree. “Don’t touch this tree.” Elle rushes to grab Paisley, and hands her to Connor. “Show yourself! What do you want?!” She shouts in the direction the voice came. “I want nothing from her, but you, however...” The voice trails off cackling like a witch. The world goes dark, and Elle is separated from her siblings, or so she thought.
