While many claim to be followers of Christ (with the current amount of Christians in the world being around 2 billion) I think only a small amount of them truly follow the teachings of Christ. Christ taught his followers to love all people as they do themselves. That's it. That's the entirety of Christ's teachings in a nutshell. The reason it takes courage to love all is that they may not love you back. Christ is said to forgive those who simply ask for forgiveness and he calls his followers to do the same. “But I say unto you that hear, Love your enemies, do good to them that hate you, bless them that curse you, pray for them that despitefully use you. To him, that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other, and from him, that taketh away thy cloak withhold not thy coat also” (Luke 6:27-29). It takes courage to love those who don't love you back. To bless those that curse you. Part of loving all is also forgiving all. Even if they burn your house down, or murder your brother because Christ would do the same. I don't think there is anything particular about the current time that would require more courage than any other time period (unless we are talking about countries where Christians are persecuted in which case yes, it take courage to announce your following of christ in those countries) because all being Christian means is loving all.
