there are 2 halves in one whole. Knowing that we will multiply, 2x2. That is 4, and then we will add the other half to our amount of halves to see the answer.
This is because if you divide 2 and 1/2 by 1/2 you would get 5. So if you add 1/2 + 1/2 + 1/2+ 1/2+1/2 you would get 2 and a 1/2. If you count all the half’s you added there is 5.
