The Articles of Confederation were replaced with the Constitution to form a stronger government.
The Articles of Confederation was the first formal document that works as the constitution for America after its independence from Britain. Adopted on November 15, 1777, this document was later changed with several modifications for the whole country.
- The ratification of the Articles of Confederation came on March 1, 1781, when the thirteen states managed to make some changes.
- But by March 4, 1789, it was evident that the country needed a stronger government, which was not possible with just the Articles of Confederation.
- This is because the Articles gave more power to the state governments rather than the federal ones.
- So, the change or replacement of the Articles with the Constitution was approved after the Constitutional Convention in 1787.
With greater power at the state level rather than the federal level, the need for a stronger government requires a change in the policies and overall distribution of power. This led to the replacement of the Articles of Confederation by the Constitution.
