In the virtual assistance industry there is a big controversy and labor issue regarding the virtual assistants and gender. Many people in the industry are women and they are dominating the field because of the niche that they are female. The women have a privilege because many of them don't actually make websites and they outsource significantly and get paid for doing almost absolutely nothing. The industry could definitely grow if this was exposed more often and people hired the virtual assistants for their skill and not their gender. The problem is that not many people really know what they pay for and they don't understand difficulties of making a website or any of the complex coding involved. This community of women create a huge demand of virtual assistance by a woman because of the social justice appeal. The target audience is essentially anybody over 18 and needs a website. Preferably uneducated about website development is what it seems and more higher paying customers. The self proclaimed financial responsibility within the industry is to make women empowered and to spread equality for the most part. Many online industries such as this have taken a political turn and have appealed and prospered by bringing social justice into business.
