During World War One, propaganda was employed on a global scale. Unlike previous wars, this was the first total war in which whole nations and not just professional armies were locked in mortal combat. This and subsequent modern wars required propaganda to mobilise hatred against the enemy; to convince the population of the justness of the cause; to enlist the active support and cooperation of neutral countries; and to strengthen the support of allies.
During World War 1 and 2 the role played by the propaganda to mobilize population for support against the so-called enemy state was done through state controlled media such as radio, printing machines, and newspapers.

The role of propaganda is very important before and during war because of two reasons, firstly Propaganda saves State from critical questions like 'what is the benefit of war', second reason is it helps in mobilizing population for support.

- Giving jingoistic information about History through education
- Providing Factually incorrect information to masses thrrough state controlled media.
- Pointing reason for every ails in state to enemy of the state.
