The Progressive Era was 1900 to 1920 in US History. The era was marked by reform and laws that aimed to include ordinary people in politics more as well as improve their lives.

Recall is the ability as a citizen to petition for a re-vote of an elected official who is believed to be ineffective. If a person is recalled they are put back through an election. If they win they keep their seat for the remainder of their term, if they lose they are removed from their term immediately. Referendums are laws that must be voted on by citizens before being passed. To get the opportunity to vote on a law, an initiative is presented. Initiatives are petitions citizens can obtain to get the right to vote on a law.
