After France sent aid to the American colonies in the Revolutionary War she expected that the new nation would help them in their ensuing war with Great Britain. This led to an unfriendly attitude. Great Britain wanted the U.S. to help them because of an historical relationship. Their pressing of sailors off American ships on the high seas and this led to the War of 1812 between Britain and the U.S. Both sides did not accept American neutrality.
