An electron microscope is a type of microscope that uses a beam of electrons that are accelerated as an illumination source.
The electron microscope has both advantages and disadvantages. However, one of the main disadvantages is that the electron microscope cannot be able to analyze the live specimens. The three disadvantages that are associated with using this microscope to view microorganisms are listed as follows:
- As electrons are scattered in an easy manner by various other molecules in the air, samples must be subjected to be analyzed in a vacuum state. This states that live specimens cannot be studied with the help of this microscope.
- Also, the condition that the sample must be analyzed in a vacuum state also results in the inability to understand biological interactions in different microorganisms
- An electron microscope can produce only images in black and white color which is not preferable while studying microorganisms
Thus, the three disadvantages of using an electron microscope to view microorganisms are explained.
