he Second Continental Congress was a meeting of delegates from the 13 American colonies which occurred in Philadelphia in May of 1775, shortly after the outbreak of the American Revolutionary War. These delegates not only established a Continental Army and oversaw the colonies' war effort against Britain, but also passed the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and set up an official government for the colonies by ratifying a constitution, known as the Articles of Confederation, in 1781.
Accomplishments of the second national congress:
A meeting held among all the delegates from all the American colonies at the period of Revolutionary war is called the Continental Congress. Since the [tex]1^{st}[/tex] continental congress was not as successful as expected, a [tex]2^{nd}[/tex] continental congress was held in the year 1775.
The following are its accomplishments:
- The continental army was formed with George Washington as the General of the army, on 14th June 1775.
- An attempt for the peace treaty was made with the King of Britain by sending an Olive Branch Petition on 8th July 1775.
- Independence of the United States from Britain has been declared on 4th July 1776.
- An official United states flag was passed on 14th June 1777.
By signing the articles of the confederation on 1st March 1781, a real government was formed and congress is renamed as Congress of the Confederation.
