Consider Lamarck’s idea in a hypothetical situation. For example, you decided that when you have children, you want them to be big and strong. You decided to go to the gym everyday for a year. You did all your exercise routines diligently and you were able to develop really bulky and toned muscles because you believed that your kids would inherit your big impressive muscles. Do you think this would work? Discuss this with a partner and write down in one sentence the main reason why this would or would not work. Compare this to other group’s statements.

Explanation:

Well...it won't work, the bulky muscles aren't imprinted in the genes, it's only traits that are imprinted in the genes that can be transmitted to an offspring, so unless the muscular dude has a way of imprinting muscular traits on his genes, he would have to take his kids to the gym to workout, everyday, for a whole year. I hope this was helpful

According to Lamarckism's theory, he said that characteristics that we  acquire are heritable using the illustration of a giraffe and concluding that their long necks was acquired due to stretching and were able to pass this on.

Doing exercises diligently and developing a really bulky and toned muscle so your kids would inherit the impressive features is not possible (not heritable).

Other scientists came up to counter Lamarck's claim and stated that these characteristics not found imprinted in the genes are not heritable.

They are not a part of the genes. Your kids can only become so bulky or toned if it is something that is in the parent's gene and is passed on to the offspring and they can as well acquire it if you take them to the gym for daily exercises.
