Journalists have the right to freedom of speech. However, there are some times that using freedom of speech can get you in legal trouble. The New York Times wanted to post a story that could violate NationalSecurity. Although you cannot always publish what you want, it will keep you from being caught up with the law. It will also keep you from getting bad feedback from readers.

2. Why is it so important that journalists have ethics? When might they be tempted to ignore them? It is important for journalists to have ethics because if you fabricate or use private information, then the company will be in a huge conflict with viewers. Journalists tend to ignore ethics because there might be a really good story, but it goes against their company's ethics.

3. Give an example of a conflict of interest. Explain why this is a problem for journalists? If they were to see their cousin steal something they might not want to report or write about it because they are related. If they were to see someone who looked like a popular celebrity steal something, they would want to report on it because they know it will get a lot of views. This is a problem because they don’t know whether to write about it since they aren’t sure if it was a celebrity or someone else.

If they did not have it then they might get backlash for the article.

The press practically lives at the Whitehouse and helps keep them balanced because the press is waiting to hear new developments.
