The birds are more likely to survive than the fish because the fish actually live in the lake and get resources from there. If the lake gets polluted, the water, oxygen, and food will get worse and the fish will slowly start to die. But the birds can just look for their resources somewhere else.

You see birds can fly but fish cannot. Birds can breath outside of water but fish can't. So in this scenario birds have the advantage. Fish can't leave the water so they will be contaminated with the pollution. Birds can leave the water because they can fly to safety.
