I would say something like.. Ever since i was drafted its been a nonstop fight. A few days ago we fought in the battle of ___. i saw many great men die, its one of the most traumatic things i have experienced. It is worth the little pay though, times have been rough back home and i’d sacrifice myself for my family. And after the battle we ate this gritty & stale tasing food, but having it was the thing we looked forward to close to the most. Overall, we thrive for getting letters from back home, when if at all it happens. Also, talking to my fellow soldiers about their lives help keep my mind off the horridness of this war.
