A decimal is part of a whole, the whole being 1. You take that decimal, put the number (excluding the decimal point) over a hundred, and simplify as much as you can and you will have your fraction.

You can also use a graphing calculator (if permitted). Depending on your calculator model, you can find it numerous ways. One simple way is to type the decimal into the calculator and hit enter, it could turn into a fraction depending on your calculator setup. You can also refer to the manual, usually attached to the calculator case to find a Decimal-Fraction button. I hope I helped! :)
-Write the decimal as a fraction, leaving 1 as the denominator

-Multiply both, the numerator and denominator, by 10 (or 100)

-Reduce the fraction

Example: 0.75

1. Let the decimal be the numerator and 1 as the denominator

[tex] \frac{0.75}{1} [/tex]

2. Since there are two digits after the decimal point, multiply both by 100

[tex] \frac{0.75 * 100}{1 * 100} = \frac{75}{100} [/tex]

3. Reduce

[tex] \frac{75 / 5}{100 / 5} = \frac{15}{20} [/tex]

[tex] \frac{15}{20} = \frac{3}{4} [/tex]

0.75, written as a fraction, is 3/4.
