Two cars leave towns 300 kilometers apart at the same time and travel toward each other. One car's rate is 16 kilometers per hour more than the other's. If they meet in 2 hours, what is the rate of the faster car?

The cars travel with constant speed, and the equations of movement of each one are,

[tex] x_2=x_0-v_2t[/tex]

Where v_1=16 Km/h, v_2 is unknown, x_0 is 300 kilomters. As they meet in 2 hours, then t=2 and x_1=x_2, so,

[tex]x=v_1t[/tex]

[tex]x=x_0-v_2t[/tex]

Solving for v_2,

[tex]v_2=x_0/t-v_1=134\ \ Km/h[/tex]
