I think time travel appeals to a lot of people because they imagine that they could go back in time, fix things that may have gone wrong, etc. It is commonly used in media because of this.

It's about imagination. Time travel is one of the most unachievable thing ever, and for viewers to see what could happen is probably very exciting.
