B. Employers locked workers in or out of the workplace. This was a strategy to avoid riots and strikes, in a way the employers aimed to isolate the "revolting employees" so they wouldn't spread their ideas to other employees.

D. Employers used their wealth to hire armed guards. This was a way in which employers intimidated employees so they wouldn't start riots and strikes to demand better working conditions.

E. Employers used their wealth to buy unfavorable and often unfair publicity. This was a way to win favor in the public eye.

After the industrial revolution working conditions were unfair and unregulated by the government; partially because the government had never faced big factories. Big factories were a result of the industrial revolution.
