Use elimination.

Add the equations by columns to get the third equation,

[tex]2x+5x=7x[/tex]

[tex]3y-3y=0[/tex]

[tex]13+1=14[/tex]

The new equation has only one unknown, [tex]7x+0=14[/tex] so [tex]x=2[/tex].

Now plug in the fact that [tex]x=2[/tex] into one of the equations and solve for y (I will pick 2nd equation),

[tex]5\cdot2-3y=1[/tex]

[tex]-3y=-9\implies y=3[/tex].

The value of [tex]x=2[/tex] and [tex]y=3[/tex].

Hope this helps :)
