Ancient Egyptians were known to worship many different gods such as Ra, Horus, and Seth. Under Pharaoh Ikhnaton however, things suddenly changed as he demanded that they worship a divine figure named Aten.

This threw the country into disarray and when he died:

  • Monotheism was quickly returned to
  • The worship of Aten was discarded
  • Pharaoh Ikhnaton was discredited

The introduction of the worship of Aten came as a shock to the ancient world so we can conclude that it must have shocked the art world who would have had to design things for this new god.
