Space exploration has become unpopular in the United States since the flight of Friendship 7.

Glenn understands that part of the job of being an astronaut is being patient while waiting for the okay for take off.

Glenn is unaware of how much danger he is in as his capsule returns to the earth.

The goal for U.S. space missions to take the lead over other countries in space exploration was dangerous at times.
