Ancient Egypt was based on a class system which consisted of the Upper, Middle and Lower classes. There was also a class reserved for enslaved people who were foreign natives captured during wars.

The characteristics of these classes included:

The Upper classes:

Consisted of Royals, government officials, priests and rich people.
Smallest class and benefitted from the efforts of the other classes

The Middle Class :

Made up of Merchants and Artisans
Could move up to upper class if they married into it or were really successful at their work

The Lower Class:

Unskilled workers and people who usually worked on farms
The largest class

In conclusion, the society of ancient Egypt was very similar to that of many societies in the past and present in that the rich and powerful were few whilst the commoners were more.
