Answer:

He is not a reliable narrator because he is emotionally unstable. Poe heightens the tension and fear running through the mind of the narrator and his psychological state. The narrator switches between calm, logical statements and irrational outbursts. Poe effectively conveys panic in the narrator's voice and the reader senses uneasiness and growing tension in the story. It states in the text it says that he can tell the story calmly and it also say that he has a disease that. How can a person calmly tell a story about suffocating someone unless they are mentally insane and can't see a clear picture. It also states "I say I knew it well. I knew what the old man felt, and pitied him, although I chuckled at hear". Its like the narrator didn't feel anything towards the old man. The narrator also smiled gally as he was suffocating the old man if this isn't psycho behavior I don't know what is.“Whenever it fell upon me, my blood ran cold; and so by degrees—very gradually—I made up my mind to take the life of the old man, and thus rid myself of the eye forever. The fact that the narrator plans to kill the old man purely because the old man’s eye bothers him is a sign of insanity.
